Abruzzo is an eastern region in central Italy whose border is marked by sandy beaches stretching along the Adriatic north and south of Pescara. Go west and you will enter the hills, which rise to become the infamous Abruzzo mountains.

Although its hills have a variety of soils and microclimates and should be capable of producing many fine wines, the Abruzzo offers only one: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wines can vary from being a 'great gluggers' to wines of real depth, quality and concentration.
