Piedmont Wines
The Piedmont wine producing region in north eastern Italy is dominated by two black grape varieties, Nebbiolo and Barbera, along with one main white from the Moscato grape. Nebbiolo makes the magnificently rich and dry Barolo as well the more elegant Barbaresco. The Barbera has a greater yield but has also good potential. These Italian wines are well worth investigating.
The main estates that we promote here are the superb wines from the artisan producer Selezione Fontanafredda. From their lovely juicy Barbera d'Alba all the way up to their outstanding Barolos, we love their wines! Also wines from Nicola Bergaglio and Giacomo Ascheri.
In addition we list the excellent value for money Piedmont wines from Casa Marteletti. Big bramble fruits and a classic dry finish, at under £20 they offer superb value.
