Argentinean White Wines
Torrontes is one of the most popular grape varieties used in the production of Argentinean white wine. It arrived in Argentina with the Spanish conquerors in the 17th century and has adapted to the soil and climate over the years very well indeed. Aromatic, easy drinking dry white wines are made with this grape that are characterised by their fruity flavour, quite Viognier-like in style.
Other grapes used include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Viognier, Semillon and Chenin Blanc.
Chenin Blanc is known locally as Pinot de la Loire, and is proving successful in the production of some very nice Argentinean sparkling wine.
