Tempranillo Wines
Tempranillo is arguably one the greatest red grape varieties in the world. Championed by the Spanish, in particularly Rioja but now being transplanted into the new world.
Tempranillo is very much the key grape variety in Rioja, for the main. It usually constitues the largest part of the blend and gives the weight, fruit content and longevity.
The vines can age very well indeed, similarly to Grenache and Syrah. Concentrated and low yielding when older, giving the wines a bigger and softer edge to them.
