About the Estate: Ferruccio Lamborghini purchased the vineyard land near the beautiful Lake Trasimeno in Umbria in 1971. However it was only a few years ago that his daughter, Patrizia Lamborghini, turned the wine into a serious business, upgrading the facilities and hiring winemaker Riccardo Cotarella to take charge of production.

Campoleone is the \\\'top dog\\\' from the superb, small production and infamous Umbrian estate of Lamorghini. A blend of Sangiovese and Merlot mainly, matured in new French oak and highly sought after and regarded by Italian wine lovers everywhere.

Wonderfully balanced and powerful wines, the wines are well integrated with the French oak. The 2004 and 2005 are youthful, however with decanting and marriage with Ribeye steak they become smooth and a real pleasure to drink.

Ready to Drink?: Not yet. It will open up nicely in a decanter but for best results wait a few more years.

Food and Wine Matches: Italian is the theme: Bresaola or Parma ham as a starter with and just a dribble of balsamic vinegar. A game risotto or wild mushroom risotto to follow as a main course.
